**Effective 4/1/2012 through 6/30/2012, the minimum non-forfeiture rate for Keystone policies will be 87 1/2% of premium at 1.00%.  The Guaranteed Minimum Interest Rate is not impacted by this change (100% of premium at 1.00% for the Keystone-5, Keystone-7, and Keystone-10.)

The minimum guaranteed rate for the 2nd Quarter of 2012 will remain at 1.00% for the Eleos & Apollo contracts.

*Rate lock (for rate decreases) does not apply to non-qualified business where Reliance Standard is not processing the transfer/exchange request.

A.M. Best Affirms Athene Annuity's Rating

Today A.M. Best announced it has affirmed Athene Annuity's rating of BBB+ (Good), with a stable outlook.

Best points to our investment expertise and strategy, access to capital, and success in implementing our retail business model as positive factors in its decision to affirm our rating. Like Fitch Ratings, which took a similar action last month, Best identifies a continued record of strong financial performance as the key to a rating upgrade going forward.

While we continue to believe that a positive rating action is warranted at this time given our strong financial position, growth trajectory and experienced management team, we view the decisions by both Best and Fitch as positive news given the relative youth of our parent company and a challenging rating environment for our industry. We continue to operate as an "A" rated company, executing our strategy and growing our business by delivering high value product and an exceptional sales experience.

 Personal Choice Annuity™ Death Pay-Out Provision Endorsement

 

Sentinel is pleased to announce an enhancement to our Personal Choice™ Annuity. Starting immediately, all annuity contracts will include the attached endorsement that gives the contract an additional pay-out provision if the death benefit equals contract rider is not attached to the base contract. The endorsement allows the beneficiary to receive the full Contract Value over a 5-year period instead of only having the option to receive the Cash Surrender Value. These provisions are retroactive for all Sentinel Personal Choice Annuities issued by Sentinel Security Life and where such endorsements are state approved.

 

We feel both clients and our agents will find this to be a positive change as it allows for more flexibility within the pay-out provisions of the contract. We encourage you to read the complete list of revisions and to familiarize yourself with the Death Pay-Out Provision Endorsement so you can accurately explain the change to your clients. Please note that clients aged 86 to 90 are always required to add the death benefit equals contract value rider to their annuity.

 

Several states have specific death pay-out provision endorsements so please refer to the links below if you work out of Wyoming, Florida, or Nebraska. In addition, California and Oregon are still pending state approval on the endorsement. We will advise our agents when these two states are approved. We've also attached a revised Agent Field Guide and a death scenario worksheet for reference and to keep on-hand if questions come up with your clients.

Acquisition of Delphi Financial by Tokio Marine Closes

 


The merger of Delphi Financial Group (Reliance Standard's parent company) into Tokio Marine Holdings closed yesterday, May 15, 2012.  Tokio Marine is the largest property and casualty insurer in Japan and a global insurance group with assets of $200 billion.  Post acquisition, Reliance Standard will continue to operate as a first class enterprise with a reputation for growth and profitability while maintaining a high degree of consistency during difficult economic times. 

Tokio Marine can be the catalyst for a new era of growth and opportunity at Reliance Standard.  Their financial strength and ratings profile, their network of global relationships, and their access to capital can potentially leverage Reliance Standard's strengths to new orders of magnitude.  I speak for our entire team in affirming how pleased we are to be embarking on this new and exciting partnership.

As a result of the merger, Fitch Ratings has upgraded the Insurer Financial Strength rating of Reliance Standard from "A-" to "A+" and has changed the ratings outlook from positive to stable.  We expect upgrades from the other rating agencies as well.
